Chamaedorea Palm


Scientific name: Chamaedorea oblongata

Date collected: April 18, 2011

Location collected: on campus of UCLA in the Mathias Botanical Gardens

Habitat: Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 1,457 meters (0 to 4,780 feet), grows in wet forests or near fast flowing streams.

Nativity: C. oblongata is not native to California, it is actually native to Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Special notes: The flowers are produced in inflorescences; they dioecious, with male and female flowers on seperate plants.
